David Shen, the founder of our company, was a 26-year-old polishing technician when he began his optics career 30 years ago; and during which time he was deeply enchanted by the various telescope brands and the legendary stories of many telescope makers like Isaac Newton, Dmitri Maksutov, Tom Johnson and John Dobson.

The very first time that David looked through a telescope happened to be 12 o’clock on a summer night when he just finished his work at the office. The stars were brightly lit, which urged him to go back in the office to grab a telescope and start star-gazing. He placed the telescope on the top hood of his car. The first planet that came in his way was Saturn- he was greatly moved by its magnificent rings. It was such a precious experience to him.

Saturn was deeply etched in David's memory and encouraged him to pursue his dream:

To build good and affordable telescopes for consumers.

This dream came true some 25 years ago when he established Synta factory; during these decades he strives to his uttermost to improve product quality and reduce prices.

He moved to Canada in the 1990’s and established the company as the place of congregation for a group of dreamers. Realization of dreams is a unique corporate culture: the one which he is always in pursuance. In Canada, the brand Sky-Watcher, Go-To telescopes and Go-To Dobsonians were born.
